Wireless technology has many benefits. This is true for many different switch types, but in particular for foot switches. Here a cabled connection is detrimental to occupational safety (keyword: tripping hazard) and can also impact the function or durability of the switching device, for example if the cable sheath is damaged by weld spatter or mechanical wear and tear.
This is why the steute Controltec wireless range for industry attaches particular importance to foot switches and is now launching a new series in time for the SPS.
These RF GF SW2.4 LE-IND foot switches are immediately noticeable in new colours (yellow and grey). Fundamental differences to their predecessors include a new wireless system based on Bluetooth LE which is already well established in steute medical foot switches. This system features a long range (up to 45 m indoors), and permits multiple wireless switches to be operated in parallel on a single machine or in a single production area.
Other improvements in comparison to the former series include a much lower power consumption, ensuring long battery times between charging cycles. The quality of the connectivity, i.e. the wireless signal, is permanently monitored and displayed on the antenna unit.
At the hardware level, the new wireless foot switch series is extremely durable, even in adverse environments. The aluminium enclosure is powder-coated, and the switches can be operated in damp conditions (protection class IP 67), as well as in temperatures ranging from -20°C to +60°C. These one or two-pedal switches are optionally available with a protective shield.
Also new is the corresponding RF RxT SW2.4 LE-IND receiver. This slim 23 mm unit takes up very little space on mounting rail and yet has four NOC as output contacts, as well as a validate relay, also as NOC, for signal processing. Thanks to redundant signalling between the transmitter and receiver, this wireless system is extremely reliable. Pairing of the receiver with the foot switch is simple, and LEDs inform users about relevant operating states.
In summary, the steute Controltec wireless range has now been expanded to include wireless foot switches as system solutions suitable for use in complex industrial environments. They make a valuable contribution to ergonomic comfort and occupational safety at the human-machine interface.
